When the first stage of the New Hunters Point South development at the southwestern tip of Queens was announced last year, it required a minimum of 60% affordable units – already a considerable amount for a development that, when completed, will be the largest affordable housing development since Co-op City.
However, when all is said and done, it turns out that the first phase of this development – over 900 units – is going even further toward maximizing affordability. 100% of the units are going to be permanently affordable housing, the kind of workforce housing New York City needs if it’s going to continue to complete on a global stage.
