ANHD Welcomes Krystal Portalatin to the CNL Training Team

We are happy to announce that Krystal Portalatin will joining the Center for Neighborhood Leadership (CNL) as the new Training Coordinator for the CNL Organizing Apprenticeship and Introductory training course programs. Krystal comes to CNL with a wealth of experience in organizing and in supporting organizing work as a consultant and trainer. We look forward to all of the contributions we are confident she will make to the CNL Program.

Who is Krystal?

Krystal Portalatin is a Queer Femme Nuyorican. As a youth she co-founded FIERCE, an LGBTQ youth of color community based organization, to fight against the impacts of gentrification and policing in the West Village. At 19, she left New York and lived for several years in Oahu, Hawaii and San Diego, California where she worked in the areas of domestic violence, HIV/AIDS prevention, and youth development. Longing for her political home, she returned to New York City in 2008 to work at FIERCE.  While there, she systematized and streamlined the operations and administrative systems, developed and implemented a wellness and sustainability program to complement existing leadership development programming, and expanded the national program which sought to strengthen Queer and Trans youth organizers across the country. After transitioning out of her role as Co-Director in 2015 she continued to support the movement as a consultant. In that role, she brings her knowledge of organizational development, program development, organizing, leadership development, fundraising, non-profit finance, and operations to support grassroots organizations to build their capacity and functionality. Her approach to consulting draws from the skills she cultivated while working for social justice organizations that are rooted in an anti-oppression and intersectional analysis.

CNL is entering its 10th year! Stay tuned for more on how to get involved and celebrate with us.
